We The Kings, The Maine, Never Shout Never Live At Ayala Malls

The premier lifestyle destination Ayala Malls once again brings world-class entertainment to the country this February. Three of the most anticipated alternative-pop-rock bands today: We The Kings, The Maine and Never Shout Never rocks Manila with a series of live performances in Ayala Malls. From their unexpected success on MySpace, these three bands have gained a multitude of following all over the world.

The Maine (L-R) Kennedy Brock, Jared Monaco, John O’Callaghan, Pat Kirch, and Garret Nickelsen

Riding a wave of melodic lines and infectious hooks, The Maine makes its way to the ears of fans who find comfort and joy in their music. Since their junior year band members, John O’Callaghan (vocals), Garret Nickelsen (bass), Pat Kirch (drums), Kennedy Brock (guitar and vocals) and Jared Monaco (guitar) knew they wanted to make music that would rock and inspire their listeners. They wanted to create a new sound and began drawing influences from 90's radio alternative bands. Meshing styles like indie, pop and rock can sound forced, often imitating other bands without a hint of originality, but for The Maine mixing a wide variety of genres just sounds natural. After gathering a huge following through Myspace, The Maine played their first show in front of over 600 fans, acquired solely through word of mouth and this social networking site. In 2007 Pat Krich with Garret Nickelson founded the band and made their debut with a five-song EP called Stay Up, Get Down. The following year they released their first full-length album Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop just before touring with Good Charlotte and Boys Like Girls. In 2010 they released yet another album entitled Black & White and very recently released their newest LP In Darkness and In Light that includes a 17-minute short film written, scored, and created with help from friends.

Never Shout Never (Center) Christofer Drew, (L-R) Nathan Ellison, Hayden Kaiser, Taylor Macfee, Caleb Denison, and Dustin Dobernig

Whimsical and poetic, Never Shout Never’s Christofer Drew has the amazing ability of crafting optimistic songs. Using MySpace to spread his self-released EPs, Christofer landed a performance on TRL and has since had over 55 million song plays on the site and sold over 58,000 EPs — all as an unsigned artist! With influences from The Beatles, Beach Boys adding a splash of sunshine pop served as the foundation for brutally honest lyrics about losing, loving and following your dreams. Now, the 18-year-old Missouri native together with the rest of the band: Caleb Denison (lead guitar), Nathan Ellison (drums), Taylor MacFee (bass), Dustin Dobernig (keyboards, violin), and Hayden Kaiser (percussion, tambourine, djembe, xylophone), continue to attract fans with their feel good music. In 2008, Christofer self-released The Yippee EP, his first under the Never Shout Never moniker – the name a toast to his drive and determination – which has sold more than 30,000 copies and hundreds of thousands of individual tracks. Two more EP’s soon followed – Me & My Uke and The Summer EP – as well as tours with The Honorary Title, Gym Class Heroes, The Academy Is as well as an opening spot for Dashboard Confessional. Never Shout Never became one of the top new acts of 2009, crowned by winning the MTV Woodie Award, beating out other buzz-worthy acts like La Roux, Grizzly Bear, Wale and Passion Pit. Early in 2010, the band released their debut mini-album What Is Love? followed by an EP entitled Split done with The Maine as 'Thank you' gift for their fans who supported their tour together.

We The Kings (L-R) Danny Duncan, Hunter (Ryan) Thomsen, Drew Thomsen, and Travis Clark

Performing live in Manila at Ayala Malls this February together with The Maine and Never Shout Never is another MySpace sensation, We The Kings. Hailing from Bradenton, Florida, band members Travis Clark (lead vocals, guitar), Hunter Thomsen (guitar, vocals), Drew Thomsen (bass), and Danny Duncan (drums) are one of today’s most engaging and exciting young acts around. With a knack for writing citrus-sweet hooks, alternative-rock band We The Kings display a kind of energy that never fails to be infectious, a type of happy disease. The group began playing together while at Manatee High School early in 2000, and landed on the PureVolume Top 10 list. After continuing success via internet sites such as MySpace, the group released their debut self-titled album in 2007 that hit at #3 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart and #151 on the Billboard 200. The band has toured with bands such as Cobra Starship, Valencia, Just Surrender, Metro Station, Boys Like Girls, All Time Low, and many others. Their latest album Smile Kid with Heaven Can’t Wait as its first single is “A dose of warm weather in the grips of a bitter winter.” as Idobi Alternative Pop-Punk Internet Radio puts it. Each time the band steps on the stage there’s a burst of energy and passionate vocals that engulfs the audience to feel the music and enjoy the show.
