Perfect day with Going Straight

I know most of us know GOING STRAIGHT salon is the leading chain of beauty centers in the country, which offers hair care and styling services. It is also one of the Philippine pioneers in hair straightening, having started in 1993 at Makati Cinema square as their flagship branch.

I'ts such a perfect day for me to de-stress, when one of my blogger friends invited me to their 25th Anniversary celebration. I knew I had confirm right then.

Before the event, Ms. Nancy Lintag, gave us a brief summary of  how they started. Surprisingly, they are like ordinary business also, starting from one branch and now they have 41 salon branches all-over the Philippines. And to tell you guys, GOING STRAIGHT is not just about straightening or re-bonding, they also do curls and twirls.

Ms. Nancy Lintag - Center Manager

And that was definitely my day!

STEP 1: Hair Analysis ( they assigned one stylist to check your hair status and recommend treatment)

STEP 2: Treatment (all we want is the best for our hair, so they re-touched  my hair color and gave it a lift with highlights)

STEP 3: Perfect smooth hair after retouching, highlighting and cellophane. Here's my new hair!

It didn't end there, they also gave us a membership card which gives a discount coupon that we can use for future services.  This Christmas season, if you're thinking of a special gift for someone, treat them to GOING STRAIGHT -----  I assure you that they will have a Merry Christmas :)

M & S Autumm 2011 Collection

Shot by the iconic fashion photographer Rankin and styled by Wonderland Fashion Editor Way Perry the campaign showcases three of the freshest faces of the fashion and acting world; Sophie Byron, Suki Waterhouse, and Louise De Chevigny. In true Rankin style, the dynamic black and white photography encapsulates the energy and ethos of the Limited Collection and the girls about town.

“Working with such a renowned British brand as M&S on the Limited Collection ad campaign has been really exciting opportunity. I’ve grown up with M&S so the brand feels really familiar. But working with Limited Collection allowed me to capture the younger personality of the brand and the energy of the girls,” says Rankin.

Inspired by the swinging sixties, the new Autumn 2011 Limited Collection uses pops of color and edgy design elements to create a sleek and modern London look. Chic a-line hems, traditional to the mod-rock blueprint of the 60s are highlighted in pieces such as the silk block shift with garments like the animal print dress and geometric body-con dress making up to date and trend focused for Autumn 2011.

The Philippines Gears Up for The Country’s Biggest Anti-Cervical Cycling Tour

The countdown to the cycling tour that will save at least 500 Filipino women from cervical cancer has begun.
Now, about a hundred anti-cervical cancer campaigners are getting in shape for The Tour of Hope 2011 - 500: Going the Xtra Mile Against Cervical Cancer, which is one of the most challenging cycling tours in the country. Organized by Bravehearts in partnership with Team David’s Salon and GlaxoSmithKline, this year’s Tour of Hope aims to provide cervical cancer vaccinations for 500 women during its 5-day tour.

In a country where cervical cancer claims the lives of 3,807 women every year[1], the need to fight this deadly but preventable disease has only grown stronger over the years.
Since The Tour of Hope started in 2008, it has generated approximately Php 2 million through sponsorships and pledges. These were then used for cervical cancer screening programs and lectures with the Cervical Cancer Prevention Network (CECAP).
However, if you think that The Tour of Hope is all about the bikers, think again. Over the past two years, the event organizers have formed partnerships with local government units such as those of Tarlac, Dagupan, Pampanga, La Union, and Baguio in order to conduct lectures during each stopover of the tour to local communities containing marginalized groups with poor health-seeking behavior.
What’s in Store for The Tour of Hope 2011

“Over the past two years, The Tour of Hope has been perceived as a cycling tour first and an anti-cervical cancer fundraising event second, when in fact it should be the other way around,” explains Abbygale Arenas-de Leon, Bravehearts president. “For this year’s Tour of Hope, we are not just focusing on increasing awareness about the disease, we also want to encourage people, especially women out there, to take action against cervical cancer.”
Aside from the challenging journey, The Tour of Hope has always been known for bringing its participants to scenic locations such as Vigan, Zambales, and Camarines Sur. This year is no exception. The Tour of Hope 2011 - 500: Going the Xtra Mile Against Cervical Cancer will kick off at the TriNoMa Mall in Quezon City on May 28, 2011.
The first stop will be at Tarlac City, Tarlac. It is the home of President Noynoy Aquino’s ancestral house and Mount Pinatubo, where adventure-seeking 4x4 wheel drivers try their skills, and hikers visit the crater. The tour will then continue

to San Fernando, La Union, where the renowned La Union Botanical Gardens is located. Afterwards, the bikers will head to Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, where historical churches and ancestral homes that reflect the beauty of old world architecture can be found. The fourth stop will be Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, where tourists often visit the Juan Luna Shrine. There, visitors can get a glimpse of the award-winning Spolarium painter’s life through vintage photographs and household artifacts. The final stop for this year’s Tour of Hope is Paoay, where bikers will get to see the unique blend of Spanish, Chinese, and architecture represented by Paoay Church, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The last leg of the tour will feature celebrity bikers such as Matteo Guidicelli, Sen. Pia Cayetano, Marvin Kiefer, Rovilson Fernandez, Troy Montero, Aubrey Miles, Will Devaughn, Richie Hardin, Richard Herrera, Janna Victoria, Jeena Lopez, Gem Padilla - Thomas, Anthony Pangilinan, and David Charlton. They will be lending their star power to draw attention to a good cause. In addition to that, Tessa Prieto – Valdes is also currently working on a special project that will also help raise funds for cervical cancer prevention.
“I would like to invite everyone to sign up for The Tour of Hope 2011,” says Arenas-de Leon. “Not only is it good for your health, your participation will undoubtedly help change and save the lives of thousands of women all over the Philippines.”

Bravehearts is a non-profit organization initially led by the Cervical Cancer Prevention Network (CECAP) for the Cancer Institute Foundation (CIF). It is dedicated to raising awareness on cervical cancer prevention and is supported by a growing number of women, including prominent personalities such as Abbygale Arenas-de Leon, who is the current president of the organization, Senator Loren Legarda, Pia Magalona, Ellen Tordesillas, Tessa Prieto – Valdes, Jeena Lopez, Maimai Davao, Joyette Jopson, and Suzi Entrata. For further inquiries, please email braveheartsphilippines@gmail.com. To be a part of The Tour of Hope 2011 – 500: Going the Xtra Mile Against Cervical Cancer, please email Joyette Jopson at joyette.jopson@gmail.com or contact her at 0917-8827352.

Jimmy Choo Cruise 2012 collection

JIMMY CHOO CRUISE 2012 COLLECTION

Exotic journeys don't have to mean beach-bound. This season, the Jimmy Choo Cruise collection takes its cue not only from ideas of beautiful coastlines and glamorous poolside scenes but also from the modern urban landscape – the ultimate backdrop to any wild escapade. This is a collection that travels from luxurious ladylike totes, which follow clean graphic lines, to hand knitted raffia hobo bags, and from tall playfully colored wedges to sophisticated skyscraper stilettos in glossy patent finishes. Thrilling prints collide – racy zebra stripes and exuberant displays of Seventies-inspired florals are all in the mix. In short, Jimmy Choo Cruise 2012 is a collection that is as perfectly suited to city destinations as it is to the most remote, far-flung locations.

Sultry Sixties French actresses such as Anouk Aimée and Charlotte Rampling, Jimmy Choo heroines of AW11, continue to inspire with their alluring ability to play off fierce femininity and ladylike charm with all-out sex appeal in a clever game of seduction. An erotic, naughty undertone runs through this collection and is best played out via hues of soft nude in sumptuous box leather or in sheer mesh contrasted with glossy black and other fetishistic details such as reveal-and-conceal peek-a-boo cutouts, and bondage multi-straps.

But this is a collection too that revels in bold bursts of color and exotica. Jumpstarting graphic black and white, find fuchsia, coral pink, orange, Klein blue, vivid green, and chrome yellow – all made livelier by way of slick patent finishes, lustrous stingray and pony leathers, and color-saturated suedes. Add silver and gold metallic finishes, and a dusting of glamorous glitter, and Jimmy Choo Cruise 2012 makes for a dynamic statement.

New wave; as thoughts turn to escape and adventure, it’s those elements of the ocean – exotic stingray and scuba – that come together to impressive effect in CAYLA a zebra printed shagreen clutch with dazzling black pave trim.

Artisan luxury and urban modernity collide in CAYLA a hinged flip clutch in glowing yellow patent. For a tamer approach, CASSIE in nude and black zebra print pony is a subtler prize; a contrast chili-red patent trim sets it alight. CAYLA in glossy lipstick red patent make for a mesmerizing double act.

The favorite espadrille wedge is constantly evolving – presenting new prints, hot hues, and clever ways with construction. This includes the POLAR a peep-toe sling back design.

CHOO 24:7 - CRUISE 2012 COLLECTION

Choo 24:7 – Jimmy Choo’s definitive assortment of iconic shoes, boots, and bags is an ever evolving collection, and this season sees the collection expand with new styles revised in fresh colors and finishes.

Variations in heel height, close- or peep-toe insure a wedge for every sartorial style.

Choo 24:7 Bags evolve into a smaller scale with the return of ROSALIE, now scaled down to a mid-size version. Perennially chic, this season features arm-candy colors of white, black, fuchsia and neon orange- RIVER, a sleek, tailored shoulder bag, in the season’s vivid palette of fuchsia, neon orange, yellow, turquoise and white. Finally, wherever well-heeled travelers are headed, Jimmy Choo’s coffee cup holder perfectly compliments these new 24:7 additions and will have intrepid explorers feeling right at home – regardless of continent.

In the Philippines, Jimmy Choo is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc. (SSI) and is located at Greenbelt 4, Ayala Center, Makati City

Toblerone: Celebrating The Global PINOY!

The modern day hero is nowhere near Andres Bonifacio or Jose Rizal. He does not carry a sword; nor does he wield a pen to rally a revolution. He is largely unknown and unacknowledged. But his sacrifice is no less valiant – after all he carries the dream of his family and a country’s economic security (17 billion USD in remittances and a 12% in GDP) on his shoulders.

So how do you say ‘thank you’ to a hero? How do you give back to the 11 million overseas Filipino workers who are sustaining our nation?

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas, Duty Free Philippines, Good News Pilipinas and Kraft Asia and Toblerone are stepping up to the challenge by announcing the opening of nominations for the first Thank You Global Pinoy Awards.

The Thank You Global Pinoy Awards is an initiative that seeks to search for the most outstanding global Filipino workers who deserve the gratitude not only of their loved ones; but also of the nation as a whole. It is primarily led by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO)—the government agency tasked to promote and uphold the interests of Filipino emigrants and permanent residents abroad and Toblerone as the key proponent of Thank You Day in 2007.

“We envision a community of well- respected and proudly competitive Filipinos overseas who contribute significantly to the productivity and well-being of the countries where they reside and work; while maintaining strong ties with the Philippines,” says Ms. Imelda Nicolas, CFO Chairperson. “And we believe that the Thank You Global Pinoy Awards, with its thrust to thank and give recognition to Global Pinoys, is a good way to achieve this.”

Duty Free Chief Operating Officer Mr. Lorenzo Formoso explains, “We have always been committed to satisfy the shopping needs of the international traveler in an efficient service environment showcasing the Filipino traits of warmth, hospitality and gratitude. We support the Thank You Global Pinoy Awards because it is a good channel to promote our intrinsic Filipino trait of showing appreciation.”
A purely below-the-line initiative, the Thank You Global Pinoy Awards will invite nominations of outstanding overseas Filipino workers
who deserve to be thanked. Participants will have to log on to www.thankyouglobalpinoy.com  to register, nominate and vote for the ultimate Global Pinoy. The top 10 stories will be awarded in January 2012.

A Heritage of Gratitude

The private sector has also shown great interest for the project with industry leaders Duty Free Philippines, Kraft Asia and the “thank you chocolate” Toblerone indicating their support.

In 2007, Toblerone challenged a Reader’s Digest poll that ranked Manila as one of the least courteous cities in the world, by staging the Philippines’ first ever “National Thank You Day” on October 20, 2007. Two years after, Toblerone elevated personal gratitude to a social exercise that involved the whole country with “The Thank You Day Awards.” Here, a grateful nation paid tribute to public Filipino figures Manny Pacquiao, Francis Magalona, Dolphy, Daniel Razon and Cory Aquino.

This time, together with the Thank You Global Pinoy Awards, the Swiss chocolate brand will be launching the Special Rewards Passport. The passport can be used to redeem gifts from partner establishments every time users do their shopping or go on vacation. Through this promo, Toblerone shows its appreciation to Global Pinoys by not only recognizing their efforts online, but also giving them a pasalubong that they can enjoy with their family.

“Four years ago, the brand sought to simultaneously revive the art of saying thank you and position Toblerone as synonymous with the value of gratitude,” shares Mr. Jaya Singh, Region Director, Middle East and Asia Pacific, Kraft Foods World Travel Retail.
“And the overwhelming support that we got – a congressional legislation declaring an official  ‘National Thank You Day’ alongside massive media and private sector participation— proved that yes, the value of gratitude resounded with Filipinos. This year, we hope to rally that same groundswell of support, this time, for our Global Filipinos.”

Be part of a grateful nation. Join the rest of the country as it honors the ultimate global pinoy whom a grateful nation will say a resounding thank you to. For more information, visit www.thankyouglobalpinoy.com .

Josiah’s Catering’s unveils sweet, pulpy, and elegant setups

What’s the best way to experience a more colorful and exciting intimate celebration like no other?

Showcasing new sample event themes and a fresh line of delectable cuisines and desserts, Josiah’s Catering, the country’s largest and most innovative caterer, has been a household name in the Philippine food servicing industry, recently held its Grand Food Tasting at One Esplanade in SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Attended by 150 choice guests, Josiah’s Catering rolled out three new sample event setups, namely the All About Sweets, Orange and Lemons, and Posh themes. The event validated the fact that when it comes to making celebrations a lot more special, there’s no other name to count on except for one that built its character through sheer passion and experience.

Sweet feasts
The All About Sweets theme exudes unique charm and appeal with a lip-smacking mix of colorful candies, cupcakes, and other confection treats.

Guests will definitely have an overwhelming palate experience with Josiah’s Catering’s scrumptious dishes that are completed by sugar-coated chewy candies and rich, bright-colored meringues on each tables.

Of Oranges and Lemons
Round and pulpy, yellow and orange fruits, on the other hand, radiate a “citrus” feel for Josiah’s Catering’s Orange and Lemons theme.

Yellow shines with optimism, enlightenment and happiness, while the color orange elicits fun, flamboyant warmth and energy—this was the inspiration we had for the Orange and Lemons theme.

Classy delights
The Posh theme, lastly, stirs a smart, elegant, and fashionable appeal through more exquisite table designs and food arrangements.

With class reflected by attention to even the littlest details, Josiah’s Catering’s Posh theme will be the perfect fit for cozy wedding and birthday celebrations.

A chilly surprise
What also stood out during the food tasting event was the launch of yet another first for Josiah’s Catering: the Ice Cream Bar. The idea of the Ice Cream Bar popped up a few years ago when we were thinking of something new to offer our clients. We just want everything to be perfect that’s why it took us some time before we introduced this idea to our clients.

The Ice Cream Bar is an added service that clients can avail aside from the regular event package offered by Josiah’s Catering. Guests can choose from a wide variety of ice cream flavors and pick out whatever they want to combine with their selected delight—cookies, chocolate sprinkles, marshmallows, and just about every sweet treat one can ever imagine.

Josiah’s Catering has been a household name in the Philippine food servicing industry, having been around for about 20 years now.
Josiah’s Catering wants every celebration—be it a wedding or a simple birthday or corporate party—to be an unforgettable experience so people can relive how fun and personal these moments were. Truly, every intimate gathering is a moment to be cherished. This is why Josiah’s Catering always goes beyond the usual services by customizing and innovating the way celebrations are made.

SB furniture makes a statement

One seemingly simple thing can go a long, long way in many different aspects of life. A long, elegant pearl necklace, for instance, can immediately transform an otherwise plain black tee-and-jeans ensemble into an ultra-chic outfit. A squeeze of lemon on steamed fish can likewise create a whole new dimension of flavor.
The same goes for interior design or decorating—you don’t need to repaint walls or buy a whole new set of furniture just to update a room’s look or feel. SB Furniture, Asia’s chicest and greenest furniture brand, helps you add more oomph to your rooms. All you need is a little imagination and creativity, and a keen eye for striking, accent pieces that can add more character and depth to your home.
Spice Up a Room’s Style
If your sitting area or bedroom already has a theme that you love, then it’s better to pick key furniture pieces that can amplify this style instead of going for a complete renovation. A lamp with a stained glass-like shade or even something as modest as a framed print of a vintage poster can enhance the Art Deco or vintage feel of your living room. You may also add an armchair with graffiti-printed upholstery, such as the Monso Black Graffiti chair from SB Furniture (Php 17,998) as a fun, accent piece.

A lamp with a stained glass-like shade or even something as modest as a framed print of a vintage poster
can enhance the Art Deco or vintage feel of your living room.

Going for something more modern? A black Matt armchair (Php 14,998) from SB Furniture or a sleek Laccete-C coffee table (Php 9,988) go well in a sitting area with a more avant-garde theme. You can also add to the relaxing atmosphere of your spa-inspired bedroom with a Meudon dresser in Wenge (Php 7,998) or a  Trizz side table in walnut and black panels (Php 2,998).
Soften Cluttered Spaces or Tone Down Busy Spaces
The right furniture pieces can also soften a room with dark walls or spaces that are too busy—living rooms with too many photos and paintings on the walls, or a small area, or a studio apartment that is both a sitting area/bedroom. In cases such as these, it’s best to add a key piece that becomes a focal point, so that your eye is drawn to this instead of the clutter.
SB Furniture’s Sparta & Vish 4-piece dining set in white with black trim (Php 26,000) can add a lighter touch to a dark-colored kitchen. In the same vein, a simple and plain piece of furniture can add a relaxing visual break in rooms with too many patterns.
You can, for instance, place a Santrona chair in chromium and white (Php 2,998) in a study room filled with shelves of books and DVDS to create a calming focal point.

If your sitting area or bedroom already has a theme that you love, then it’s better to pick key furniture pieces
that can amplify this style instead of going for a complete renovation.
